The Tibetan government-in-exile has decided to celebrate the 80th birthday of their spiritual leader, the 14th Dalai Lama, according to the Tibetan calendar next week.
"On 21st June, which corresponds to the Dalai Lama's birthday according to the Tibetan calendar (fifth day of the fifth lunar month), a special prayer for long life will be offered to His Holiness by the Central Tibetan Administration in Mcleodganj in Dharamsala, India," Tsering Wangchuk, Press Officer of the Tibetan government, said.
The event would be attended by prominent guests from around the world, he said, adding it would be extended by two days (June 22 and 23), to be marked by cultural dance, exhibitions and book launches.
"The Prime Minister of the Tibetan government, (Sikyong) Dr Lobsang Sangay would launch the official greeting video for the occasion on June 17 at 11 AM at Lhakpa Tsering hall, DIIR Mcleodganj," he further said.
The video will be in Tibetan, English and Chinese languages.
"His birthday would also be celebrated according to the English calendar later in July," he added.
