Sydney: Denmark's Prince Christian, second in line to the throne, has been rescued from the surf at an Australian beach by a lifeguard after getting into trouble, a report said today.
The 10-year-old son of Crown Prince Frederik and his Australian-born wife Crown Princess Mary was plucked from the sea on the popular Gold Coast holiday strip last Thursday, the Brisbane Courier-Mail reported.
The newspaper said he was rescued at Mermaid Beach by lifeguard Nick Malcolm after getting caught in a rip current that can quickly sweep swimmers out of their comfort zone.
Witnesses told how Malcolm paddled out into the Pacific Ocean and brought the young prince, grandson to Queen Margrethe II and Prince Consort Henrik, back to his distressed parents, who are holidaying in Australia.
Malcolm told media today that he was not allowed to comment but fellow lifeguard Shane Pierce said, "I'm sure we'll give him plenty of stick now we know."
