In a shocking incident, over 62 illegal immigrants - mostly Afghans - were found suffocated to death while dozens of others fainted in a container from Afghanistan enroute to Iran through Pakistan on Saturday. The victims were being smuggled to Iran.
The truck carrying the container was found abandoned on the outskirts of Quetta. Passers-by heard cries of help and informed the police.
"We received information about 110 bodies but we have found around 50 bodies. The rest of the people were unconscious," said Mohammad Abbas, a rescue worker.
Traffickers have used south-western Pakistan frequently to smuggle illegal migrants from the region to Europe.
At least 35 illegal migrants were found dead inside a container opened in Quetta three years ago.
