New Brunswick, New Jersey: Dharun Ravi, an Indian-born student convicted of using a webcam to spy on his gay roommate, has been driven by New Jersey sheriff's officers to jail.
20-year-old Ravi arrived at the sheriff's department in New Brunswick, New Jersey, just after 12:30 p.m. to be fingerprinted and photographed.
Shortly after, he was driven to the county jail to serve a 30-day term.
He was dressed in a T-shirt, khakis and canvas sneakers. His father and two attorneys hugged him before leaving the sheriff's department.
Ravi's roommate, Tyler Clementi, committed suicide in September 2010, days after Ravi used a webcam to see him kissing another man.
He could have remained free while prosecutors appeal his sentence, but agreed Wednesday to serve his jail sentence now.
