Michigan:
It's been widely noted that first lady Melania Trump's visit Monday to Michigan schoolchildren, in which she urged an end to bullying, was slightly off her husband's brand. (Why, he tweeted mean things about a senator's height just this morning!)
But another one of the first lady's messages to the kids is attracting the internet's attention, too.
"Don't try to copy somebody," she said, according to the pool report of the event in what the New York Times called a "somewhat stilted" sidebar conversation with a small group of kids. She might have been warning them not to give into peer pressure, since she added: "No drugs. No cigarettes."
But some folks on social media found her instructions a little ... interesting. Remember that speech she gave at the 2016 Republican convention that turned out to be partially, ah, copied from a speech by Michelle Obama?
Yeah, so Snarky Twitter had some fun with that:
"Sounds familiar oh that's right, she plagiarized @MichelleObama!" one wrote. "Umm, could you excuse me for a sec?" wrote another. One user just captioned the quote with a raised-eyebrow emoji.
Maybe the mean-tweeters should heed the first lady's other remarks to the middle-schoolers: "I think it's important that we choose kindness and compassion."
