Driver of stolen car wreaks havoc as he tries to escape

Guangdong, China: Surveillance video of police in China's Guangdong Province recorded footage of a driver in a stolen car who crashed into 13 vehicles while trying to escape the police.

The incident took place in Meizhou, on December 30, 2011, during the rush hour, according to Chinese media.

A traffic police officer attempted to flag down the stolen car but the driver refused to stop, and tried to make his getaway but, blocked in by stationary traffic, he ploughed into several cars, in a series of forward and reverse manoeuvres.

The footage shows the police officer running after the car as surrounding cars are stuck in a traffic jam, blocking the stolen car's exit route.

As the traffic policeman reaches the car, the driver reverses and hits and rolls over a motorcycle.

Later the footage shows the car further up the same road, still trying to escape the police and crashing into several other cars, including a truck.

According to the Chinese State CCTV the driver was arrested later in the day, charged with endangering public safety.
