An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck 226 km (140 miles) south of Russia's Kurile Islands today, the United States Geological Survey reported.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 34 km, off the town of Severo-Kurilsk.
