Cairo:
Egypt today expressed deep outrage over Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's comments calling Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi a "tyrant" and condemned the remarks, saying it lacks objectivity.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a strongly-worded statement that Erdogan's comments are derived by "personal purpose" and warned that the already sour relations between the two nations could worsen.
"Erdogan's comments reflects complete ignorance and denial of the real political position in Egypt since the June 30, 2013 revolution and after a free and fair presidential elections with the participation of thousands of effective regional and international organisations, which witnessed the fairness of the elections," said the statement.
Last week, Erdogan had slammed Sisi as an illegitimate tyrant, saying Cairo could not be relied upon to negotiate a truce with Israel.
He had said: "Is Sisi a party (to a ceasefire)? Sisi is a tyrant himself."
Erdogan's comments came as Turkish leadership insists on intervening in the Egyptian internal affairs, which the statement said is "rejected and unacceptable."
"Turkish leadership is persisting in ignoring the facts of history and Egypt's national role in defending the Palestinian issue," the statement said.
Relations between Egypt and Turkey soured after Sisi led the last year's ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, a Brotherhood leader.
The Muslim Brotherhood group, branded as a terrorist organisation in Egypt, is believed to have the support of Turkey.
Egypt has given the Turkish leadership more than one chance to uphold the common interests between the two nations, but if Turkey will continue to turn a blind eye on Egypt and its elected leadership, this will, no doubt, lead to further action by Egypt, which would limit the development of bilateral relations, according to the statement.
In a recent interview with broadcaster CNN, Erdogan accused Egypt of lacking a sincere approach to the Palestinian issue.
