Eight Killed in Baghdad Car Bomb Attacks

Baghdad: At least eight people were killed and 36 wounded in four car bomb attacks in Iraq's capital Baghdad on Wednesday, an interior ministry source said.

In one of the attacks, a booby-trapped car parked near a crowded market exploded in the afternoon killing at least five people and injuring 14, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

A car bomb detonated near a bank in the southern part of Baghdad, leaving two dead and eight wounded, the source said.

Another car bomb struck a crowded area near a private hospital in central Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding five others, the source added.

The fourth car bomb ripped through Amil district in southwestern Baghdad, wounding nine people, the source said.

Iraq has been witnessing some of the worst violence in years. The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq said earlier that at least 1,737 Iraqis were killed and 1,978 injured in acts of terrorism and violence in July across Iraq, not including casualties in Anbar province.
