Colombo:
At least eighteen passengers including three women were injured when a bomb blast occurred near the railway tracks as their train was passing by in the outskirts of the Lankan capital Wednesday morning, police said.
The explosion occurred near the tracks at Dehiwala at around 7 am in the morning as a passenger train carrying several office goers was on its way to Colombo, they said.
",Eighteen passengers including three women were injured in the explosion and were admitted to the hospital where they are being treated for minor injuries",, a police officer said.
All those injured were travelling in the second bogey behind the engine, he said.
",It is believed that the bomb had been triggered to target the Colombo-bound heavily crowded passenger train",, the Defence Ministry said.
Earlier Nine people, including five women, were killed and 71 others injured when a bomb, planted by suspected LTTE rebels, ripped through a packed train in the same area last week.
