Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has again poked fun at Apple, asking his over 65 million followers to not waste their money on buying a "silly" polishing cloth the iPhone-maker launched last month with its new MacBook Pro laptops. Instead, Mr Musk asked them to invest their money in buying a cyberwhistle by Tesla for $50 (Rs 3,748). Mr Musk also shared a link to a webpage that said the limited-edition whistle is inspired by Cybertruck, an all-electric, battery-powered, light-duty truck announced by Tesla, which was initially set to launch this year but is likely delayed.
Apple's polishing cloth, made of "soft, non-abrasive material", has the company's signature logo in one corner and is priced at Rs 1,900. For comparison, premium microfiber cloths come for around Rs 115 on Amazon.
"Don't waste your money on that silly Apple cloth, buy our whistle instead,” said Mr Musk.
The Cyberwhistle, a premium collectible, is made with medical-grade stainless steel. The whistle includes an integrated attachment feature for added versatility, according to Tesla.
Several people enjoyed Mr Musk's fun-filled dig at Apple and also added their two cents to the online banter, including Dogecoin co-creator Billy Markus. Mr Musk has often supported Dogecoin on social media, so much so that he has earned the title of "Dogefather".
Mr Markus, who goes by the username Shibetoshi Nakamoto on Twitter, said, "It's much harder to annoy my friends with a cloth so I like this one better."
"Clothes come and go. Medical grade stainless steel whistles last forever," said a user.
Some found sense and purpose in buying the whistle.
Others argued that the whistles were sold out within minutes.
This is not the first time that Mr Musk had a go at Apple. In August, this year, replying to a tweet from prominent investor Ross Gerber, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO said he has discontinued using Apple News. Mr Gerber had said the news app was a "major source of negativity" in his life and Mr Musk agreed, saying "same".
