Margate: UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage has failed to win a seat in Britain's parliament as his anti-European Union party suffered a series of setbacks, final results from the general election showed today.

The 51-year-old, who had promised to step down if he did not win a seat, said he felt "an enormous weight has been lifted from my shoulders".

"I think the time has come for real genuine radical political reform," he said, pointing out that his party had received millions of votes nationwide but only managed to win a single seat in parliament.
