Former Maldivian president Mohamed Nasheed conceded defeat on Saturday in a bitterly-contested election to his rival Abdulla Yameen.
"I graciously accept defeat," Nasheed told reporters in Male after results showed that he had narrowly lost to Yameen, the half-brother of former autocrat Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, in a run-off election.
