Facing flak, Pakistan PM Gilani cuts short France trip

Facing flak, Pakistan PM Gilani cuts short France trip
Paris: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is facing the heat after world's most wanted terrorist Osama bin Laden was killed in Abbottabad, near capital Islamabad, on Sunday.

US and other developed countries are asking tough questions to the Pakistan government about presence of bin Laden in Pakistan and how he was not caught for so many years.

Mr Gilani had to cut short his France trip on Tuesday to return home.

He said that Pakistan wants to fight terrorism but lacks capacity and urged countries like France to "help make law enforcement agencies stronger."

Mr Gilani also made an appeal to the international community calling for their help in fighting "terrorism and extremism".

"Security and the fight against extremism or terrorism is not the job of only one nation," Gilani told reporters in Paris, where he met French business leaders.

"We need the support of the entire world," he said adding, "we are fighting and paying a heavy price to combat terrorism and extremism... fighting not only for Pakistan but for the peace, prosperity and progress of the whole world."

Referring to western powers, Gilani said: "Instead of giving negative messages on Pakistan, they should send positive messages to Pakistan."
