Johannesburg:
A small aircraft carrying South African fans to the World Cup match between Germany and England made an emergency landing on a major highway leading to the host city of Bloemfontein on Sunday. The plane had to force land on a highway during peak hour traffic time. Vehicles on the highway N1 had to instantly change direction to make way for the plane, averting a major accident.
Police superintendent Sam Makhele said, there were no injuries among the six people aboard the plane or in the vehicles on the N1 highway that had to veer out of the plane's way.
Makhele said the pilot of the plane, that was carrying a family group from the city of Benoni, had reported experiencing technical difficulties.
Traffic was halted for a while, but the highway was reopened after the plane was moved to the side of the road.
