Fifteen Dead as Bus Plunges into Ecuador Ravine

Quito: At least 15 people were killed and more than a dozen were injured on Saturday after a bus plunged into a ravine in Ecuador, officials said.

A spokesman for the emergency services said the accident happened during a journey from the southeastern town of Manta to Quito.

The bus fell some 500 meters (540 yards) after leaving the road, the spokesman said. Fifteen people were injured.

Around 13 people die every day in accidents on Ecuador's roads, according to official estimates.

On Christmas Eve in 2010, an overloaded bus crashed, killing 35 passengers.
