Mexico City, Mexico: Thirty people were wounded in Mexico when a fire broke out at a depot suspected to be storing oil stolen from a nearby pipeline, authorities said on Wednesday.

Seven of the victims are in serious condition and have been hospitalized following the fire in the southern state of Tabasco, which struck on Tuesday night near a pipeline belonging to national oil company Pemex, the state government said.

The company said the fire was brought under control before it threatened the pipeline.

Oil and gas theft are common in Mexico, particularly in regions where violent drug cartels hold sway.
