Lahore:
Pakistani police have arrested the owner of a television channel and sealed its studios after a fire killed five persons and injured a dozen others, a senior official said on Monday.
A murder case has been registered against Mehmood Ahmad Ansari, owner of the Koh-e-Noor TV channel following yesterday's fire, Deputy Inspector General of Police Rai Tahir said.
"The owner committed negligence and failed to make his studio secure in all aspects," Tahir said.
The studio was sealed following the fire that erupted during a special transmission for 'Sehri', the pre-dawn meal before the fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramzan.
A show on 'Naats' (hymns) was underway when the blaze began.
Three performers and two employees of the channel died of burns and suffocation while several other employees were injured.
The channel had been beaming a six-hour live transmission for 'Sehri'.
