New York:
Authorities say five people have been shot and wounded on a crowded boardwalk near a New York City beach, and two of them are in critical condition.
Police spokesman Paul Browne says the shootings by two gunmen happened during an altercation late Thursday afternoon on the Brighton Beach boardwalk.
Browne did not know if the wounded were intended targets or bystanders. He says police are questioning some people, but declined to say whether they were potential suspects.
The critically wounded -- a man and a woman -- were taken to Coney Island Hospital. The other three were taken to Lutheran Hospital.
No arrests have been made. The shooting is under investigation.
