Washington, DC:

A frustrated US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has now said that Islamabad has to have a change in its "mindset".

"Now, there are no promises. They have to do it," said Hillary.

She said Pakistan needs to focus less on India as a threat and more on Islamic extremists within its own country.

"Changing paradigms and mind-sets is not easy, but I do believe there is an increasing awareness of not just the Pakistani government but the Pakistani people that this insurgency coming closer and closer to major cities does pose such a threat,"

Over the past seven years, the US has given Pakistan over $12 billion in aid, in return for its support of US military operations in Afghanistan.

The Obama administration has said that the new aid will depend on Pakistan rooting out extremists.

However, the advances of Taliban, moving just 100 km of Islamabad by taking control of Burner district, has the US alarmed, leading to the unprecedented demand that Pakistan dilute its traditional focus on India.

"There is a significant opportunity here for us, working in collaboration with the Pakistani government, to help them get the support they need to make that mind set change," said Clinton.

For years now, the US has simply paid off bills submitted by Pakistan for fighting terror without asking any questions. Much of this money, India has maintained, goes towards supporting terror groups like the LeT and the JeM conduct activities on Indian soil.

Now, after months of waiting for results, an impatient Obama administration it seems is re-evaluating US policy and demanding that Islamabad - its ally in the war on terror, focus on its border on the west and not its borders on the east.
