Fourteen-day-old premature baby orphaned

Sydney: A 14-day-old premature baby has been left an orphan after her parents were killed in a car crash in Sydney, Australia.

Lucy Schollbach was born three months premature on September 1 weighing just 2.9 pounds and was being treated at Sydney hospital.

Her parents Justin Schollbach and Leah James were driving home after visiting their daughter in hospital when the fatal accident occurred.

Their car veered off the road and hit a pole, killing them instantly.

Lucy was the couple's first child.

The baby's uncle Kurt Schollbach has been looking after her, since her parent's death.

"I've been seeing her every day and in different times with different people just to make sure that she knows someone's there, so she'll never feel lonely," said her uncle.

Lucy is expected to stay in hospital until November.

She is currently under the care of a government department until it is decided who will raise her.

Her parent's funeral will be held next week.
