Paris: French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius rejected an Arab League proposal on Tuesday for Syria's President Bashar al-Assad to be granted safe exit from the country in exchange for stepping down.
"The Arab League has made this proposal but I think that in the long run all dictators must pay for their crimes," Mr Fabius told France 2 television.
"In the end, for him as for other dictators, there will be no impunity," he said. "Assad is going to fall, it is simply a matter of time."
In a joint statement issued on Monday after meeting in Doha, Arab League foreign ministers called on Mr Assad to "renounce power," promising that he and his family would be offered "a safe exit" from Syria.
The regime rejected the league's call, saying the Syrian people "are the sole masters of the fate of their government".
