Two United States airmen died Wednesday when a gunman opened fire on an American military bus at the Frankfurt airport, according American military officials in Europe.
Local media reports identified the suspected gunman as 21-year-old Kosovar. The German police said that two people were injured, one seriously.
According to one police spokesman, Jürgen Linker, the attack occurred outside Terminal 2 at the airport, one of Europe's busiest.
A Frankfurt police spokesman, Manfred Fuellhardt, said the bus was sitting outside the terminal when the gunman attacked. He said the two people killed were the bus driver and a passenger.
The United States military has several major bases in the Frankfurt region that serve as logistical hubs for operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
