Washington: French Ambassador to the US Gerard Araud appeared to have deleted a controversial tweet that expressed dismay at a collapsing world order as the counting of votes were going on in the US presidential polls.
"After Brexit and this election, anything is now possible. A world is collapsing before our eyes. Dizziness," the 63-year-old diplomat tweeted.
The original tweet, which was in French, read as, "Apres Brexit et cette election, tout est desormais possible. Un monde s'effondre devant nos yeux. Un vertige."
Later, the veteran diplomat deleted the tweet.
In a result that stunned the world, Mr Trump was today elected the US President crushing strongly-favoured Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
Mr Araud was appointed Ambassador of France to the US in July 2014.
He had served as France's Permanent Representative to the United Nations as well as Director General for Political and Security Affairs of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development.
