Paris, France:
French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has scrapped a trip to Canada next month to deal with the social unrest and rolling strike action at home.
Looming air and train strikes are threatening to bring chaos to France less than two weeks before the Euro 2016 football tournament kicks off, with unions standing firm Monday in demanding that controversial labour reforms are scrapped.
The prime minister's visit to Canada had been scheduled for June 15-19 but has now been put off "until the autumn", according to his team.
The planned visit included a meeting in Ottawa with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and trips to Montreal.
It is the second trip that Valls has postponed since the labour reforms row ignited. A visit to Australia and New Caledonia was delayed from March until early May.
Valls was criticised in some political quarters for visiting Israel and the Palestinian territories last week while the social unrest at home was escalating.
