Ansbach: A 19-year-old student wounded nine other students at a high school in southern Germany on Thursday after he attacked them with an axe.

Police arrested the alleged attacker, who was also wounded, and recovered flammable devices from him.

Spokespersons for the Nuremberg Police told local media that all wounded students appeared to be eighth-graders and that one of them, a girl, was seriously injured.

Media reports that Molotov cocktails were lobbed in a classroom or that shots were fired could not be confirmed.

The incident was the second attack on a school in Germany this year. In March, 17-year-old Tim Kretschmer fatally shot 12 people at his former school in the southwestern town of Winnenden. He fled the building and killed three more people before turning the gun on himself.

After Kretschmer's attack in Winnenden, Germany moved to tighten checks on weapon owners.
