Philippines:
A woman was killed today as she unwrapped a Christmas present with a bomb hidden inside, police in the Philippine capital said.
"The victim was killed on the spot. The bomb exploded on her face when she opened the gift," said police district head Chief Superintendent Arne delos Santos.
Investigators are still seeking clues as to who sent the deadly package to the family home in a suburb of Manila, delos Santos said.
Last week a bomb believed to have been planted by Islamic extremists exploded inside a church during Christmas mass on the southern Philippine island of Jolo.
Christmas is widely celebrated with religious ceremonies and gift-giving in the largely Christian Philippines.
