Gilani congratulates Manmohan, discuss terrorism

Islamabad: Gilani telephoned Manmohan Singh on Thursday to congratulate him on winning the trust vote in Parliament.

Pakistan attaches immense importance to its relations with India and the two countries should jointly work towards combating terrorism, Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani told his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh during a telephone conversation.

Gilani said, ",The present state of unrest in the region demands more cooperation for combating terrorism and extremism as both countries are victims of this menace.",

Gilani said he looked forward to meeting Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the SAARC summit in Colombo in early August.

According to Gilani, Manmohan Singh's victory in Tuesday's trust vote ",was the success of democracy", and such democratic norms must be encouraged in the region for strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

",The Indian Prime Minister said all outstanding issues, including Kashmir, between India and Pakistan, would be resolved amicably. He assured his full support and cooperation in this regard.",

Gilani also said that a stable Afghanistan was in the interest of all the countries of the region and all possible efforts must be made to bring peace and stability in the country.
