London:
A bridegroom in Brazil died within hours of his marriage after he tripped over and landed on a glass of beer.
33-year-old Fabio Jefferson Maciel had married fiancee Geise Guimaraes six hours before bleeding to death following the freak tragedy in Rio de Janeiro, Daily Mail reported.
Over 200 people watched the couple tie the nuptial knot in a church ceremony before heading on to a lavish reception at a beachside club.
Witnesses said Maciel, a Brazilian navy sergeant, was fooling around with one of the young bridesmaids early on Monday when he tripped and fell.
A beer glass, which he had put in the left-side trouser pocket, shattered and a piece severed his vein, a major artery to the top of the leg, causing rapid blood loss.
He died on his way to hospital.
Fabiana Sena, a friend of the couple, said Maciel's widow is still under shock.
"She just cries and says 'I want my husband back'. Nobody can believe what happened, and even less the way it happened," Sena told O Globo newspaper.
