Seoul:
North Korea says the country is struggling to recover from recent floods that caused heavy damage.
The North's official Korean Central News Agency said on Sunday that "rapid progress is being made in the work to reconstruct the dwelling houses and public buildings destroyed by heavy rain and downpour and put roads and bridges into their original shape."
KCNA said last week that some 36,700 acres (14,850 hectares) of farmland was submerged and 5,500 homes and 350 public buildings and facilities were destroyed or flooded.
South Korea's Unification Ministry spokesman Chun Hae-sung said North Korea's damage did not appear to be serious and South Korea is not considering whether to provide assistance to the North.
