Uruguayan authorities say flooding caused by heavy rains has killed at least two people and forced nearly 1,000 from their homes.
The information was announced Tuesday by the National Emergency System.
Authorities say a man was killed when he was tending cattle near the Cuareim river in the Artigas region bordering Brazil. A second man was killed when he was dragged by the current while bathing in a creek in the Salto region.
The Artigas and Salto regions have been the worst hit by the floods.
Officials are not expecting any relief soon, with more showers forecast for the South American country on Tuesday and Wednesday.
