High heels race for men during Madrid's Gay Week celebrations

High heels race for men during Madrid's Gay Week celebrations
Madrid: The second night of Madrid's week-long Gay Pride festival saw the running of a high heeled race for men and the first attempt at a "silent" disco.

About ten competitors flitted over the cobbled streets in their stilettos, showing some remarkable balance and poise.

Afterwards a small group gathered in the Chueca square, in the heart of Madrid's gay district, for a silent disco that saw revellers dancing along to music playing in their headphones.

Due to noise complaints from some residents the local council had threatened to ban the traditionally nightly discos held in the central square.

The "silent" disco was held instead after an online radio station LOCA FM broadcast the party's DJ session live from the square so that party goers could at least listen to the music on their mobile phones.
