New Delhi:
Pakistani media is reporting that the country's glamorous Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar, may soon be assigned another job.
The speculation is based on Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani's recent remark that a "fresh team" will be assigned to continue bilateral talks with India on issues including Kashmir.
Mr Gilani offered his comment on Sunday in Lahore. He did not explain what he meant by the term "fresh team". Ms Khar, who is Pakistan's youngest and first woman foreign minister, had visited India in July last year for talks with India's Foreign Minister, SM Krishna.
Papers like The News are also referring to the fact that Ms Khar was not part of President Asif Ali Zardari's delegation to India on Sunday. The Pakistani President, who was on a private visit to the Ajmer dargah near Jaipur, met with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and was then hosted at a lunch. Interior Minister Rehman Malik was among the Pakistani delegates.
The Press Trust of India refers to another recent incident where Ms Khar allegedly contradicted President Zardari. A US delegation led by Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides had allegedly asked Mr Zardari if Pakistan would participate in a conference on Afghanistan scheduled for May in Chicago. Mr Zardari, according to sources, had said his government was amenable to discussing the matter if Washington extended a formal invitation.
However, Ms Khar allegedly told the US team at a meeting in Lahore that the visit to Washington could not be considered till a joint session of parliament completes an ongoing review of Pakistan-US relations.
Pakistan's government ordered the review of Pakistan-US ties after a cross-border NATO air strike killed 24 Pakistani soldiers in November.
