Lagos, Nigeria: A gas cylinder exploded at a refuelling station in southwest Nigeria, injuring several people and razing many houses, police and residents said on Sunday.
"I am now at the scene of the incident. Nobody died, but several people were injured and many houses were burnt," Ondo State police spokesman Felix Ogodo told AFP.
He said the incident happened on Saturday evening at a gas station located in Ondo's state capital Akure.
Resident Olufunke Adegbehingbe told AFP several nearby buildings and shops were razed in the fire following the explosion.
"They were refilling a gas cylinder when it exploded and sparked the inferno that consumed the houses and shops around the place," she said.
She said several people including a woman trapped in a car, were saved from the fire.
"The car was burnt beyond recognition," she added.
