Why is the coffee giant being sued?
A North Carolina police officer received a free cup of coffee from Starbucks and responded not with thanks but a lawsuit.
Why is he suing the coffee giant? Because he burned himself when the hot coffee spilled on him after the cup collapsed in his grip.
The incident happened in 2012. According to New York Post, police officer Matthew Kohr's attorney argued on Monday that the cop should be compensated for burns, blisters and emotional damage caused.
During his cross examination in the court, Mr Kohr said, "I didn't know it was that hot," reports ABC News.
ABC News also reports that in the lawsuit, Mr Kohr claims that spilling hot coffee on himself caused so much stress that it aggravated his Crohn's disease. He reportedly had to get surgery that led to the removal of a portion of his large intestine.
The lawsuit also claims Mr Kohr's wife Melanie lost a "source of emotional support, her social companion and her intimate partner."
According to ABC News, Mr Kohr and his wife are suing the coffee giant for $750,000 to cover legal and medical expenses and the damages they suffered.
