Budapest: Hungarian police say they have enhanced security measures for the country's top public officials after six people were detained last week in two separate cases and a "bomb lab" was found.
Janos Hajdu, director of Hungary's Counterterrorism Center, said Tuesday that two people whose car contained machines guns, ammunition and silencers were detained Friday.
On Saturday, four people were taken into custody on the outskirts of Budapest after explosives were found in their car.
Hajdu said house searches led to the discovery of a "bomb lab" and homemade explosives. He said the second case had "international ramifications," but that it was too early to say if it was related to Islamic extremism.
The Counterterrorism Center said security would be increased for Hungary's president, prime minister and other top officials.
