Hurricane Dolores Weakens, Moves Away from Mexican Coast

Mexico City: Hurricane Delores was downgraded to a category two storm Thursday as it moved away from Mexico's Pacific coastline, weather forecasters said.

Dolores, which reached category four on the five-level Saffir-Simpson scale Wednesday, is swirling some 425 kilometers (264 miles) southwest of Cabo San Lucas, the tourist resort located on the southern tip of Baja California, according the the latest report by Mexico's National Meteorological Service.

Dolores continues to move northwest away from the coast at a speed of 13 kilometers per hour, with sustained winds of 165 kph.

Authorities said the hurricane could still cause heavy rains and strong waves in several northwest Mexican states.
