London:
The estranged husband of Indian-origin woman Geeta Aulakh, whose dismembered body was found on the streets of London on November 16, has been re-arrested and is being questioned by police.
Geeta, who worked as a receptionist with popular Asian radio station Sunrise Radio, was found dead with her right hand severed near a child-minder's house where she had gone to collect her two children Karan and Tejdeep, aged 8 and 9. (Read: Who was Geeta Aulakh?)
Thirty one-year-old Harpreet Aulakh, her estranged husband, is one of two men being held by officers investigating the brutal killing. He was one of the 11 men arrested and released on bail some weeks ago. (Read: NRI woman killed, bail for accused)
Meanwhile, Geeta's family has said she had been threatened before her death and was preparing to divorce her husband of 11 years.
The Indian-origin owner of Sunrise Radio, Avtar Lit, said she came from a "respectable" family but the "strong-minded" Geeta married against the wishes of her parents Nardesh, a receptionist, and Lakwinder, a warehouse worker.
Geeta was born in Britain to Punjabi parents, while her estranged husband was born in Punjab. Her mother Nardesh Shinh, a receptionist at a doctor's surgery, described her daughter as "a wonderful person, never a bad word to say, so lively and beautiful."
"We cannot come to terms with what happened. We are too upset to speak."
Sher Singh, 18, of Southall, has appeared in court charged with murder and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on March 1.
Police were earlier investigating several theories behind the murder, including jealousy, access to the children or "bringing dishonour" on the family.
The "honour killing" theory was doing the rounds among the community after it was found that her right hand - with the 'kara' or religious bangle -- had been cut off.
