Houston: Alumni of prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Bombay have decided to celebrate their alma mater's 50th birthday with a Golden Jubilee Conference in New York.
The three-day conference, ",Looking Ahead: The Next Fifty Years",, will begin from July 18 and will feature eminent speakers like Ronen Sen, Ambassador of India to the United States, Jamie Dimon, CEO, JP Morgan Chase, Frank Wisner, Vice Chairman, AIG.
Former US Ambassador to India, David Leebron, President Rice University, Aneesh Chopra, Secretary of Technology State of Virginia, and many others from business, academia, government and NGOs are also expected to participate.
The seminar will be co-chaired by Victor Menezes, retired senior Vice Chairman, Citigroup, and Nandan Nilekani, Co-Chairman, Infosys.
",This open-to-all conference is expected to attract 1200 attendees from around the world,", Pradeep Anand, vice president Preng & Associates and an IIT Bombay alumni said.
More than 700 people from over 325 organisations have already registered for this event, which features networking, knowledge-sharing and thought leadership on various subjects such as globalisation, energy, technology, career development, and social entrepreneurship, he said.
During the latter part of each day, the tenor changes to that of a celebratory gala, with great food, lively entertainment, fashion shows and dancing.
America is home to an estimated 50,000 graduates of the Indian Institute of Technology. The IIT alumni have been quietly strengthening the engineering, business and academic backbones of America since the 1960's.
Firms founded by them have created tens of thousands of jobs in America. Some of these firms are traded on NASDAQ like INFY, SYNT.
Few alumni of IIT-B have featured on Forbes list of America's richest (Bharat Desai). Besides making distinctive contributions to many American industries (Attachment 3), IIT alumni are also raising their children in environments of educational excellence.
