London: An Indian-origin woman bank employee has been jailed for stealing 120,000 pounds (around $202,000) from a customer's account in Scotland, a media report said on Thursday.
Satnam Kaur, 30, a Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) employee, transferred a large sum of money from Robert Brown's account to India from Aberdeen in Scotland in 2011, BBC reported.
Glasgow-based Kaur was jailed for 12 months by the Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Kaur was working as a customer adviser at the RBS in Aberdeen when she took the money between Oct 20 and Nov 2 in 2011.
She used her unique identification number to access Brown's account and transferred funds totalling 120,000 pounds into the account of Robert Mann.
She then wrote a cheque in Mann's name forwarding the funds on to her Lloyds TSB account, BBC said.
The bank worker who has since been sacked also tried to claim she was gifted the cash as "hush money" by Brown after alleging he had touched her inappropriately.
She was also found guilty of moving 88,000 pounds of the cash out of Scotland at her trial earlier this month.
None of the money has been recovered, but Brown has since been reimbursed by the bank.
