Kuwait City:
India on Monday sought the support of Kuwait in forging a common, comprehensive approach to deal with the "international plague" of terrorism and favoured greater economic cooperation with the oil-rich Gulf country, especially in energy and petrochem sector.
On a three-day visit to the Gulf state, the first by a top Indian leader in 28 years, Vice President Hamid Ansari underscored the "deep and harmonious" bilateral ties.
"Kuwait contributes to our energy security as it provides 12 per cent of our crude oil imports. Our bilateral trade has touched eight billion dollars. So economically and politically we have harmonious ties with no problem areas," Ansari told reporters onboard his aircraft.
He said terrorism remains a common concern of all countries and will be discussed with the Kuwaiti leadership.
"India was among the first countries to call for a common comprehensive anti-terror approach and slowly but surely other countries have seen the logic in it.
"Terrorism is an international plague and it has to be fought at the international level," he said, stressing the need to develop a common approach to deal with the menace.
Ansari also said the Indian government has been striving to have close cooperation with its proximate neighbours, like the Gulf Corporation Council members, including Kuwait.
