Kuala Lumpur:
An Indian national has been charged with offering and giving bribe to a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer, reports here said on Saturday.
Syed Ibrahim Shahul Hameed (35), a businessman from Sivaganga district in Tamil Nadu, had allegedly offered and given 1000 ringgit (Rs 13000) to an MACC officer over a bid to reduce tax on 500kg of areca nuts at the KL International Airport on Wednesday.
Hameed reportedly claimed trial at a Sessions Court to two charges of offering and giving bribe to Mohd Yussof Zakaria.
Judge Yong Zarida Sazali set bail at 15,000 ringgit in one surety and ordered Hameed to surrender his passport. She fixed the next hearing on May 14.
