Riyadh: A principal of an Indian school in Saudi Arabia has received recognition from the Indian government for his valuable contribution to the field of education over the last 37 years, a media report said on Monday.
The principal of International Indian School Jubail (IISJ), Syed Hameed, has been honoured with the 'National Award for Best Teacher' by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee in the presence of Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani in New Delhi Sep 5, observed as Teachers' Day in India, Arab News reported.
"I am thankful and grateful to almighty Allah, my students, colleagues and friends who have supported and guided me throughout my 37-year teaching career," the report quoted Hameed as saying.
According to the report, Hameed is a popular principal with a huge following. Ever since he took over the reins at the Jubail school a couple of years ago, he has inculcated a spirit of seeking merit and excellence among both teachers and students.
The Indian expatriate community in Saudi Arabia, and in Jubail, has been delighted by Hameed's national recognition.
"It is a matter of great pride for the Indian community," said Syed Waheed Lateef, a prominent community member.
"He is the flag-bearer of the dreams and aspirations of the community in Jubail, and has played a key role in shaping the futures of our children."
In addition to his school duties, Hameed is also a motivational speaker and has delivered many talks at local and international events.
