An Indian-origin man chased a robber in New Zealand when he tried to rob him at knife point, media reported on Thursday.
A man walked into the Raleigh St Dairy, owned by Pran Sharma and tried to rob him at knife point in Taranaki, the Taranaki Daily News reported on Thursday.
The man pointed a knife at the dairy owner and demanded money and cigarettes.
In retaliation, Mr Sharma hit the man with an electric kettle and, when he moved backwards, grabbed a jar of lollies and whacked him again.
"I was not scared. I tried to grab the knife," Mr Sharma said.
"He was lucky to escape. I was really angry," added Mr Sharma. The exchange lasted less than a minute.
Mr Sharma chased the robber across the road, yelling at him to stop and come back. But the man disappeared up a side street.Mr Sharma has owned the dairy for more than two years.
