London:
A 37-year-old Indian-origin school teacher in Britain has been jailed for 16 months on charges of having sex with two male students. Hina Patel, who was working as a classroom assistant and swimming teacher, has been found guilty in the Liverpool Crown Court of having had sex with two 15-year-old male students, The Sun reported.
Both boys had a poor disciplinary record at school and one of them had juvenile convictions, the prosecution lawyer said.
Patel, a divorced mother of two, was employed to supervise "disruptive" students at the school, but instead flirted with the two teenager boys and gave them her mobile number, the court was told.
Later, she invited the boys to her home where she had sex with them within hours of each other. She admitted two counts of sexual activity with a child last month.
Judge John Rogers accepted the defence argument that Patel's behaviour was "out of character".
"I have no hesitation whatsoever in coming to the conclusion that these offences were so serious only an immediate custodial sentence can be justified," he said.
Patel, who was present in the court, has been banned from working with children under the age of 16. She was suspended from the school when the allegations came to light and has since been sacked.
