London:
Harpreet Aulakh, the estranged husband of Geeta, whose dismembered body was found in the streets of London, has appeared in court after being charged with her murder.
In the Feltham magistrates court, Harpreet (31), spoke only to confirm his name and address. He was then remanded in custody to reappear before the Old Bailey on March 1 2010.
Harpreet is charged with the murder of 28-year-old Geeta Aulakh, a mother of two, who was found with serious head injuries and a hand severed on November 16.
He is one of two men arrested by Scotland Yard in connection with the murder. Sher Singh (18) was also charged with her murder.
Geeta, a receptionist with Sunrise Radio, was on her way to pick up her two sons, Tejdeep (8) and Karam (10) when she was attacked.
Her family stood outside the court after the hearing holding her pictures. Her uncle Jaswant Kanda (48) said, "We want justice to be served."
Her aunt, Mina Dhunna, said Geeta's children, keep on asking about her return.
"We are really devastated. The little one is so quiet.
They ask their grandparents, 'Will we be home for Christmas?' The eldest asked where her body was. It was heartbreaking."
