Indians in Australia hail Congress win

Melbourne: Indian community in Australia has welcomed the victory of Congress in the general elections and hoped that the party-led UPA would address the aspiration of the people and provide a stable government in the country.

 "The world's most populous democracy has once again maintained its position as a nation of stability and progress in a region that is increasingly torn apart by internal and external strife" Vasan Srinivasan, President of the Federation of Indian association of Victoria FIAV) said.

Srinivasan said that here that the People in India have voted for stability, continuity, certainty and progress regardless of internal and external pressures.

"It seems that the Congress Party and its Alliance of minor parties maintains a workable majority within the Lok Sabha and will be able to provide the sound governance and purpose as government which is necessary to address the multitude of needs and aspirations of Indian people," he added.

Commenting on the UPA victory Neel Raizada, an IT professional, said this strong comeback of the Congress-led alliance elections has proved that common man wants stability and faster economic reforms.

He said that he attributes this victory mainly due to Prime Minister Manmohan SIngh's personality and image in India.
