India's deficit not sustainable: Pranab Mukherjee
Scotland: India's fiscal and revenue deficit are not sustainable and need to be cut by 2012, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in Scotland.

Pranab Mukherjee is in Scotland to take part in the G20 meeting, which is expected to sketch out a strategy to unwind the massive fiscal stimuli adopted by countries to tackle the economic downturn.

"India's fiscal and revenue deficit are not sustainable. We have to cut them by 2012. There has to be coordination among the G20 about exit strategy but not synchronization," Mukherjee said.

The two-day meeting of finance ministers and central bankers is taking place in the backdrop of an early recovery in the world economy.

It is likely to push ahead with the initiative announced in the September Pittsburgh summit to realign the world's financial landscape and return to growth by requiring each country to write its own policies.
