India will sign a bilateral social security agreement with Denmark in August to facilitate safe and legal migration of Indian workers to meet the growing demand for skilled personnel in the European country.
Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said negotiations on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Denmark have already been completed and it is likely to be inked next month after the budget session of Parliament.
"We will sign the agreement soon. Negotiations have been completed and the draft is ready," Ravi said.
He said the pact would open up opportunities for Indian skilled and trained workers, including doctors and nurses to work in Denmark, for which the Union Cabinet has already given its approval.
The agreement provides for cooperation between the two countries in the areas of labour market expansion, employment facilitation, orderly migration and exchange of information and cooperation in introducing best practices.
Ravi said India has already signed labour protection agreements with the Gulf countries except Saudi Arabia.
Social Security Agreements eliminate double payment on social security contribution, exempt detached workers from host country legislation and enable portability of pension and prevent loss of benefits.
