Indonesian police search for survivors following a train derailment at village Mekar Sari in Tasikmalaya, West Java, Indonesia, Friday, April 4, 2014
Jakarta, Indonesia:
A railway official says at least three people were killed when a passenger train hit mounds of mud after heavy rain triggered a landslide in central Indonesia. Two others are in critical condition.
Junerfin, a spokesman for the Indonesian Railway Company, says the train derailed at a junction in Tasikmalaya, a district on Java island, late on Friday.
He says three coaches derailed into a 10-meter (32-feet) deep ravine when a landslide buried part of the tracks and the train's brakes could not stop it from hitting mounds of mud.
